500 Ukrainian Drones & Missiles Blast Moscow
Russian air defenses can't stop such enormous raids
Hundreds of Ukrainian drones and cruise missiles pummeled Moscow early on Thursday. For the first time since Russia widened its war on Ukraine 52 months ago, Ukrainian deep strike forces have bombarded the Russian capital with the same intensity that Russian deep strike forces routinely bombard the Ukrainian capital.
“Last night, our long-range sanctions once again reached the Moscow region,” Ukrainian Pres. Volodymyr Zelensky stated, adding that Ukrainian munitions hit a Moscow refinery for the second time this week.
“This is a fully justified response to Russian attacks on our cities and communities, and another important result of our warriors’ work against facilities that sustain Russia’s war machine,” Zelensky wrote.
Russia has concentrated hundreds of air defense systems around Moscow in order to blunt Ukrainian strikes, but the layered defenses failed to prevent extensive damage in the city.
“The Ukrainians went through more than 100 air defense systems,” mapper and analyst Clément Molin noted. “Russian air defense has been widely ineffective.” One Russian surface-to-air missile missed a Ukrainian drone and blew up a fuel storage tank instead, lifting the tank’s enormous cap high into the sky.
