A Captured Russian Tank Blasted Away As Two Blackhawk Helicopters Landed Ukrainian Commandos On A Secretive Mission

The objective of the Oct. 29 operation is still unclear

On Oct. 29, at least two Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters operated by the Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate, or HUR, rotored low over the trees west of the fortress city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine.

They were the most visible parts of a complex and mysterious special operation. One that Russian propagandists immediately claimed ended with the deaths of every Ukrainian involved.

In fact, the op—which also involved intensive support from Ukrainian drones and at least one captured Russian tank—may have been successful, if newly released imagery is any indication. (See footage below.)

Which is not to say there weren’t casualties. And also not to say we have any idea what the objective was.
