In southeastern Ukraine, an endangered Russian field army is retreating to the east to avoid encirclement by a pair of powerful Ukrainian battlegroups. It’s a new development in Ukraine’s southeastern counteroffensive, which kicked off in earnest in early February as Russian communications melted down.

The retreat of the 36th CAA confirms Ukraine’s strategy at the juncture of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts … and also confirms that, after nearly, three weeks, the Ukrainian counteroffensive continues. This despite the Russians rushing artillery, air power and ground reinforcements to the southeastern front.

Early this month, Elon Musk’s Starlink bricked Russia’s stolen and smuggled satellite terminals all along the 700-mile front line of Russia’s 48-month wider war on Ukraine.

At the same time, the Kremlin recklessly blocked military access to non-government social media platforms including Telegram, which many Russian troops had used for front-line communication.

The twin moves threw the Russian armed forces in Ukraine into disarray. Sensing opportunity, the Ukrainian armed forces went on the attack in several key sectors. It was soon apparent that the Ukrainian attacks weren’t limited to local clearing operations meant to stabilize Ukrainian defenses.
