It’s not clear why the Russian 51st Combined Arms Army failed to adequately reinforce its penetration deep behind Ukrainian lines northeast of Pokrovsk, in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast, last week.
Whatever the reason, the Russians left their vanguard under-supported and exposed. Now a powerful Ukrainian force, anchored by the 1st Azov Corps, is carving up the nine-mile-deep salient—and reportedly killing, wounding or capturing hundreds of Russians.
“Stabilization operations … are ongoing,” the 1st Azov Corps announced.
