The fight for Kolisnykivka, a tiny village along the front line in Kharkiv Oblast in northeastern Ukraine, is a sideshow compared to the much larger battles raging in and around Pokrovsk, in Kupiansk and in Sumy Oblast in the north.

Tell that to the Ukrainian national guard’s BMP-1 fighting vehicle crews. Riding in up-gunned but thinly-armored BMP-1TSs, the crews from the 1st Bureviy Brigade are engaging Russian troops at point-blank range as artillery rains down.

The 1st Bureviy Brigade is one of around a dozen “offensive guard” brigades that possess most of the Ukrainian national guard’s combat power.

A video that circulated online on Friday depicts one of the 1st Bureviy Brigade’s BMP-1TSs speeding down a road outside Kolisnykivka, shrugging off at least one hit and then blasting Russian troops from just a few yards away.
