Just One Crew Member Died In The Three Ukrainian Strv 122 Tanks The Russians Have Destroyed
The Swedish tank is very, very tough
Sweden gave Ukraine 10 Strv 122 in the heady months before Ukraine’s ultimately failed summer 2023 counteroffensive. Three years later, it’s unclear how many of the 69-ton, four-person tanks—up-armored variants of the German Leopard 2A5—are still active with the type’s sole Ukrainian operator, the 21st Mechanized Brigade.
But a recent report from Officerstidningen underscores the Strv 122’s incredible survivability. According to Sehiy Dibrov, the 21st Mechanized Brigade’s press officer, just one Ukrainian Strv 122 crew member has died in his vehicle.
It’s a remarkable statistic given that, when Russian tanks take a major hit, the three crew are likely to die.
