The Russians May Have Re-Invented Israel's Super-Armored Tower Tank
Is the Nagmachon back?
It’s hard to tell from the grainy drone footage, but it’s possible Russian forces in Ukraine have invented an armored mobile tower. In essence, a tank but with a tall observation post in place of its turret.
Actually, re-invented. The Israeli army was the first to deploy tanks modified into mobile O.P.s, back in the 1980s and ’90s. If the Russian vehicle is what it appears to be, it may inherit the mission of the old Israeli Nagmachons and NagmaSho’ts.
The Israelis used the Nagmachon and NagmaSho’t, built atop old Centurion tank hulls, as mobile outposts for urban infantry action in Lebanon. It’s less clear what the Russians are using their own possible Nagmachon for.
The strange Russian vehicle makes a brief appearance in a montage of recent drone strikes posted by the Ukrainian Terra drone team. The details are difficult to make out, but it seems the Russian Nagmachon is a tank hull with an approximately six-foot tower where its turret should be.
