To Fly Attack Drones 2,100 Miles Inside Russia, Fire Point Added Wingtop Fuel Tanks
The expedient has doubled the range of the Fire Point FP-1/2
Ukrainian drone and missile firm Fire Point has steadily improved its signature FP-1 and FP-2 drones since completing the first FP-1s in early 2024.
Now official photos from July 29 hint at how the company has improved the types: by adding bulbous fuel tanks atop the wing.
We already knew Fire Point had packed more fuel into the propeller-driven, rocket-boosted FP-1/2. But we didn’t know how.
While installing an integral fuel tank inside the wing may have been possible, Fire Point’s engineers clearly opted for the expedient of bolting tanks onto the wing, clearly accepting whatever aerodynamic drag results from the awkward installation.
A July 28 release confirms the official range and payload of the FP-1 and FP-2 after several years of improvement. The explosive payloads of the FP-1 and FP-2 haven’t changed much. But the range of each model has roughly doubled since 2024.
FP-1: 2,100 miles with a 130-pound warhead
FP-2: 430 miles with a 440-pound warhead
