Ukraine Has More Flamingo Missiles Than Russia Has Radar Planes To Stop Them
FP-5s are working again
The Ukrainian army’s 19th Missile Brigade launched five Fire Point FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles at targets in western Russia on Saturday.
According to observers, Russian forces shot down three of the missiles. But two got through—and struck the RKC Progress plant in Samara Oblast, 500 miles from Ukraine.
RKC Progress builds Soyuz-2 rockets for the Russian military. Among other missions, the rockets loft Russia’s Rassvet navigation satellites into low Earth orbit.
The Russians are trying to build a constellation of Rassvet satellites in order to replace the Starlink navigation satellites that Russia lost access to back in February. “Targeting Russian space launch capacity to deny Russia a rapid deployment of the Rassvet satellites is a valid military target given how central they will be to military operations,” explained Mick Ryan, a retired Australian army general.
