Ukrainian Drones Are Double-Tapping Parked Russian Planes In Crimea

Striking Russian aircraft on the ground more than once, the Ukrainians ensure their destruction

The Ukrainian state security agency, the vaunted SBU, just posted a video montage of drone strikes on Russian warplanes on the ground in occupied Crimea in 2025.

It seems we already knew about all 15 aircraft the SBU and associated agencies hit across five airfields. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t new information to be gleaned from the montage. Most notably, it’s apparent that the SBU struck some of the Russian aircraft twice.

It double-tapped them to ensure their destruction.

That the SBU could strike parked Russian aircraft not once but twice underscores how badly Ukrainian forces have degraded Russian air defenses in Crimea. Even after losing the element of surprise, the Ukrainians are still raiding the peninsula with relative impunity.
